The short version
- ClankDesk is a free beta. Use it, but expect rough edges and keep backups.
- Your code is yours. The work agents produce is yours too, subject to your agreements with Anthropic and OpenAI.
- You decide what gets approved and merged, so you're responsible for it.
- The software comes as is. We can change or end the beta.
1. These terms
These terms apply to the ClankDesk app for Mac ("the app") and to clankdesk.com ("the website"). By downloading or using the app, or using the website, you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use them. Questions go to us through the contact page.
2. The beta
ClankDesk is in beta and free to use during the beta. Beta means it works, we use it, and it still has bugs. Features may change, move or be removed. We may introduce paid plans after the beta. If we do, we'll tell you in advance, and you won't be charged for anything without agreeing to it first.
3. Your license to use the app
We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to install and use the app on Macs you own or control, for your own work or your employer's. Please don't resell it, redistribute it, or try to get around how it's licensed or updated.
4. What you need, and other services
ClankDesk runs coding agents you install and log in to yourself, such as Claude Code from Anthropic and Codex from OpenAI. Your use of those tools, and what they cost, is governed by your agreements with those companies, not by us. The same goes for git hosts, servers you connect over SSH, and any other service your projects use. We're not responsible for those services or for changes they make.
5. Your code and your work
Your code is yours. We don't receive it, and we claim no rights to it or to anything agents produce for you. What agents produce comes from models run by Anthropic or OpenAI under your accounts, so their terms apply to that output.
6. You're in charge of what gets merged
ClankDesk is designed to keep you in control: agents work in separate worktrees, risky commands ask first, and finished work merges into your branch only when you approve it or when your "Merge finished work" setting allows it (by default, work that another task is waiting on), and only after your project's test command passes, if you've set one. Still, AI agents make mistakes, and so can software. You're responsible for reviewing what you approve, for the permissions you grant, for the settings you choose, and for what you run, ship and publish. Keep backups and use version control, which ClankDesk relies on anyway.
7. Fair use
Don't use ClankDesk or the website to break the law, to attack or disrupt other systems, or to infringe anyone's rights. Don't abuse the website, for example by flooding the sign-up form.
8. Updates
The app checks for updates and installs them automatically unless you turn that off. Updates may add, change or remove features. We may stop supporting old versions.
9. No warranty
The app and the website are provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement, to the extent the law allows.
10. Limitation of liability
To the extent the law allows, we're not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, or for lost data, code, profits or revenue, arising from your use of the app or the website. Because the beta is free, our total liability for any claim is limited to one hundred US dollars. Some places don't allow these limits, so they may not all apply to you.
11. Ending
You can stop using ClankDesk at any time by deleting it. We may end the beta, or your use of it if you break these terms. Sections 5, 6, 9 and 10 continue to apply after that.
12. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. We'll change the date at the top, and for meaningful changes we'll let people on our email lists know before they take effect. Using ClankDesk after that means you accept the new terms.
Your privacy is covered separately in our privacy policy.
