What's new in ClankDesk

Every release and what it brought. ClankDesk updates itself, so you'll usually find the newest version already installed.

The first public beta. It's the whole loop, from a spoken sentence to merged code.

Talk, and it splits the work

  • Type or speak a message. ClankDesk splits it into tasks with plans, and puts "later" ideas in the backlog.
  • Hold-to-talk key from anywhere on your Mac, plus a mic button. Speech recognition runs on your Mac when macOS supports it.
  • Paste or drop screenshots on the composer for agents to read.
  • Direct sessions send your words to one agent verbatim. A Split or One task menu keeps long messages whole.
  • Optional prompt review: with Auto-start off, new tasks wait as proposals you can edit before sending.

A board that only shows what needs you

  • Needs your input, In progress and Ready for review, with questions and permission prompts always on top.
  • Question cards show the agent's plan, images and links, with one-click answers, your own answer, or "let ClankDesk decide".
  • Every card says in one line whether it can be approved and what it needs from you. Detail setting: Less, Medium, More.
  • Stash cards to decide later, archive the Done list, and system notifications when something needs you.
  • Keyboard shortcuts for card actions, all menu shortcuts rebindable.

Claude Code and Codex in parallel

  • Each task runs in its own git worktree and branch, up to the concurrency limit you set.
  • Claude Code by default, Codex as the fallback when Claude hits its usage limit. Tasks wait for the reset when no agent can take over.
  • Pin a task to an agent, or switch a stuck task to the other one.
  • Failed tasks retry on their own for about an hour before they ask you.
  • Plan usage for Claude and ChatGPT in the header.
  • Claude Code and Codex updates offered in-app, with optional automatic updates that never interrupt running sessions.

Live sessions and a chat that runs the board

  • Open any task's live session: full transcript, tool calls and diffs. Steer a running Claude session; Codex gets your message next turn.
  • See the exact prompt and rules each turn was sent.
  • The chat answers questions about your tasks and can steer, relay, start, pause, retry, switch agents, approve, answer permission prompts and merge duplicate tasks. Lasting actions wait for Confirm.
  • It can react to tasks finishing, failing or asking: off, suggest, or act on safe steps.
  • Dock the chat at the bottom, left or right.

Review and merge on your Mac

  • Review cards as a walkthrough: summary, images, links, diff. Optional before and after screenshots.
  • Open preview runs your dev server in the task's worktree, and detects common dev commands when none is set.
  • Approve commits, rebases, runs your tests and fast-forwards your branch. Conflicts and failing tests go back to the agent.
  • Approve all prepares tasks side by side and lands them one at a time. Reject offers Request changes or Discard.
  • Overlapping tasks take turns. Work that others wait on can merge on its own. Review branches are kept rebased.
  • Worktrees of settled tasks are cleaned up automatically. Branches are always kept.

Safe by construction

  • A permission policy allows routine work and turns risky commands into a question: allow once, allow for this task, or deny.
  • Manual mode with ClankDesk's policy, or Claude Code's Auto mode.
  • Agents can't push, merge pull requests or publish releases. No force push, hard reset or stash in ClankDesk's git code.

Projects, servers and tools

  • Projects side by side in columns, each with its own composer and draft. Searchable project menu.
  • Projects on a server over SSH: worktrees, commands and agents run there.
  • Superpowers: switchable standing instructions for every agent, per project or for all.
  • Git panel, file explorer and editor, a simple command line, search, and a Progress view.
  • Project colors and canvas background artworks.

Runs in the background, updates itself

  • A background service keeps working with the window closed and resumes sessions after a restart.
  • ClankDesk checks for its own updates and installs them. Automatic installs can be turned off.
